Modern Day Families Stay United – #LaFamiliaDeHoy
Once again I have the opportunity to participate in a compensated campaign in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson and Latina Bloggers Connect by announcing the winning family of the contest I shared in December when I introduced you to La Famila de Hoy. I voted for the Jimenez family and apparently so did many of you because this super sized family was selected as the Healthy Essentials LA FAMILIA DE HOY™. Juan, Biviana and their three children: Elisa, Diego and Benicio are a modern, active, multicultural family – representative of all the values that Hispanics relate to and care about.
The Jimenez family is part of a larger family: The Jimenez brothers are 4, 3 wives, 8 children and one grandmother. The three married brothers live right next to each other with connecting backyards and the fourth brother lives close by. The grandmother is right there with them, living in the house with Juan and his family where she raised her children.
While we are a much smaller immediate family both of my parents are the youngest of six so this large but close family unit feels very familiar to me. Their day to day is reminiscent of lots of holidays with my cousins. Their special bond and eagerness to look-out for each other completely resembles my personal family experience.
Like the Jimenez family we believe in instilling our children with as much knowledge and culture as possible. We keep very close ties to our parents and try to keep our daughters connected to their Hispanic roots through food, music, language, and social interactions. And like every other Hispanic family we try to take care of each other. Whether that is through parenting advice or recommendations on food or health items we are always looking out for each other.
Take for instance my mom’s recommendation to use NO MORE TANGLES® Leave In Conditioner right after the bath to avoid knots and help control my curly-haired girl’s frizz for silky and shiny hair or the crazy knots my long straight-haired girl encounters daily. It’s been a tool that dramatically helps me keep the bath-time peace. No more tears when combing their hair, no more running away and chasing the two year old hoping to avoid mami’s brush. I owe my mom BIG for that recommendation.
In reality we are a Healthy Essentials family just like the Jimenez family. While caring for our girls we use Lubriderm lotion after the bath, No More Tangles Leave in Conditioner in their wet hair (or dry if we are trying to re-style it after play), and we go through tubes of Neosporin. The Neosporin keeps me from worrying about possible infections when they get cuts and scrapes and makes them feel instantly better. That coupled with their favorite Band-Aids and the Sana Sana song makes every booboo better.
Always looking out for each other. Thanks mom for the great recommendations.
