Frontier Airlines makes family travel more straightforward with a few key policies. Children from seven days old up to their second birthday can fly free as lap infants on domestic trips, and the airline checks strollers and car seats at no charge. Frontier also guarantees that a child 13 or younger can sit next to an accompanying adult (over 13) for free, if adjacent seats are available when you book.

Lap infants and infant fares

On Frontier Airlines, a child from seven days old until their second birthday can travel as a lap infant. For domestic flights, there is no charge for a lap infant who is at least seven days old. If you are traveling internationally, you will have to pay applicable international taxes for the infant before your first flight departs.

Each adult can only hold one lap infant. If one adult is flying with two infants, a seat must be purchased for the second infant, who will need to be in an approved car seat. Frontier encourages purchasing a separate seat for an infant as the safest option.

“Infants can travel for free, sitting on your lap from seven days old up to his/her second birthday.”

Newborns and proof of age

Frontier Airlines requires infants to be at least seven days old to fly. While you may not be asked for it automatically, the airline notes that a birth certificate may be requested to verify your baby’s age. This could happen if the infant’s age appears questionable to airline staff.

It is a good idea to have a copy of your child’s birth certificate with you, just in case you are asked to show proof of age for an infant traveling on your lap.

Strollers and car seats

You can check a stroller and a car seat for free with Frontier Airlines, and they do not count toward your carry-on or personal item allowances. You can use your stroller all the way to the gate and pick it up at your destination.

If you bring a car seat on board for a child with a purchased seat, it cannot be placed in emergency exit rows, the rows directly in front of or behind them, or the very first row. Frontier suggests placing car seats in window seats. The airline also permits the use of an FAA-approved AMSafe Aviation C.A.R.E.S. harness.

“Nope, strollers and car seats can be checked for free. •You can use your stroller through the airport •It can be gate-checked and returned to you at your destination •These items don’t count toward your carry-on or personal item allowances”

Sitting together

Frontier Airlines has a policy to help families sit together. The airline guarantees that a child aged 13 or younger will be seated next to an accompanying adult who is over 13 at no extra cost.

This guarantee applies under two conditions: everyone must be on the same reservation, and adjacent seats must be available at the time you book your flights. To ensure your family is seated together, it is best to arrange seating when you first make your booking.

“Yes, if your reservation includes a child 13 or younger, we’ll guarantee they sit next to an accompanying adult (over 13) at no extra cost, as long as: You’re all on the same reservation Adjacent seats are available at booking”

Kids flying alone

Frontier Airlines does not permit children under the age of 15 to travel alone. The minimum age for a passenger to fly by themselves on Frontier is 15 years old. Any child younger than 15 must be on the same reservation as an accompanying adult.

“Effective November 1, 2018, Frontier Airlines will no longer accept children traveling alone under the age of 15 yrs of age. Any child under the age of 15 must be in the same reservation as an accompanying adult.”
