Iberia infant and child policy: lap infants, car seats and kids flying alone
Iberia's policies for flying with infants and children, including lap infant rules, baggage allowance, car seat and stroller guidelines, and kids flying alone.
Iberia’s policies for family travel have some helpful features. For instance, infants get the same baggage allowance as their accompanying adult, and you can also bring a stroller or car seat for free. You can even bring a separate bag with essentials for the flight. An adult can fly with two infants, but one must be in an approved car seat.

Lap infants and infant fares
On Iberia, a child is considered a lap infant if they have not reached their second birthday by the end of your trip. They travel on an adult’s lap and pay a percentage of the adult’s fare. If your child turns two during your travels, you will need to buy a separate seat for them at a child passenger fare.
An adult can travel with up to two infants. However, if you are traveling with two, one of them must be in an approved car seat. Children up to age 11 must travel with a companion who is at least 16 years old.

Newborns and proof of age
Iberia permits babies to fly at any time after birth, although the airline advises against traveling with your baby during the first 7 days.
The information we checked does not specify what kind of age verification is required for an infant. It is a good practice to carry a copy of your child’s birth certificate or other identification when traveling. You can confirm with the airline what documentation they may ask to see at the airport.

Strollers and car seats
You can check one car seat or one buggy free of charge for a child with an infant or child ticket. This is in addition to the standard baggage allowance for the child.
If you plan to use a car seat on board, it must meet specific requirements. It must comply with ECE R44/R129 road safety standards, have TÜV or FAA certification for aircraft use, and have a width that does not exceed 42-44 cm.

Baby baggage
Iberia’s baggage policy for infants is quite generous. A traveling infant receives the same free baggage allowance as the adult they are traveling with. In addition to this, you can bring a folding pushchair or a car seat for the infant.
You are also permitted to bring a bag containing food, drink, and other essential items you will need for your baby during the flight.
“Iberia understands what travelling with a small child means and therefore assigns the same free baggage allowance as that of the accompanying adult, plus a folding pushchair or a car seat. You can also take a bag with food, drink and any other essential items for the flight.”

Kids flying alone
Children aged 12 and older can fly alone on Iberia and are considered adults for fare and flight regulation purposes. For young people aged 12 to 17, you can book the Unaccompanied Minor service, but it is optional.
The service is available on all flights operated and sold by the Iberia Group, which includes Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum. This covers direct flights as well as those with a connection in Madrid.
