SAS infant and child policy: lap infants, strollers and kids flying alone

Your guide to SAS's policies for flying with kids. Find rules on lap infant baggage, carry-on strollers, checked car seats, and the unaccompanied minor service.

SAS offers a generous checked baggage allowance for infants, letting you check a bag up to 23 kg on most tickets. The airline also has clear rules for bringing a stroller on board, as long as it meets specific size limits for compact or umbrella models.

Lap infants and infant fares

On SAS, a child between the ages of 0 and 2 years is considered an infant and can travel on an adult’s lap. If you want your infant to have their own seat and use a child safety seat on board, you must book that extra seat by contacting SAS Customer Service.

The information we reviewed does not state the specific fare for a lap infant, so be sure to ask about this when you make your reservation.

Strollers and car seats

SAS allows you to check one stroller or buggy and one child safety seat for free, in addition to your regular baggage allowance. You can also bring a stroller into the cabin with you if it is a collapsible compact or umbrella type.

To be allowed on board, a compact stroller must be no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm, and an umbrella stroller must be within 20 x 20 x 100 cm.

Baby baggage

When traveling with an infant (0-2 years), you can check one bag up to 23 kg, except on a Light ticket. This is a helpful perk for families packing extra supplies. However, this allowance does not apply if you have booked a Light ticket, so it is important to check your fare type.

Please note that infants are not permitted to bring their own carry-on bag on board the aircraft.

Kids flying alone

SAS offers an unaccompanied minor service for children flying alone who are between 5 and 15 years old. To use this service, you must print, sign, and bring three copies of the unaccompanied minor form to the airport.

For older children, SAS has a special ‘SAS Young’ fare for travelers aged 12 to 25. This fare cannot be combined with the unaccompanied minor service.
