Lap infants and infant fares
On Ryanair, children from 8 days up to 23 months old are considered infants and travel on an adult’s lap. Each adult aged 18 or over can accompany one infant. The fee is €25/£25 per one-way flight. If your child turns 2 before the return flight, you must pay the full adult fare for that flight.
You can also choose to buy a separate seat for your infant. This requires paying a full fare and must be booked through a Ryanair call center or online chat agent. The infant must use an approved forward-facing car seat or an Amsafe CARES restraint if they are 12 months or older.
“Infants (aged 8 days to 23 months inclusive) travelling with Ryanair must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over (one infant per adult). All infants must sit on an adult’s lap and do not qualify for a separate bag allowance.”

Newborns and proof of age
Ryanair’s policy states that babies must be at least 8 days old to be accepted for travel on their flights. The airline also advises parents to check with their doctor to confirm that very young infants are safe to travel by air. The information we reviewed does not specify what documents, if any, are needed to prove a baby’s age, so it is a good idea to ask the airline when you book.
“A baby must be at least 8 days old before we can safely accept them on one of our flights. We also advise parents or guardians to ensure that the treating doctor agrees that these very young infants are safe to travel by air.”
