Lap infants and infant fares

Philippine Airlines defines a lap infant as a child who is at least 16 days old but has not yet reached their second birthday at the start of travel. On international flights, a lap infant pays at least 10% of the adult fare to qualify for a baggage allowance. If you want your baby to fly in an approved car seat, you must purchase a separate seat for them.

If your child turns two during your trip, you must buy them their own seat for the return flight. The airline states you should call reservations to arrange this.

“Infant (16d – 23m) A passenger at least 16 days old and has not reached his/her 2nd birthday as of the date of commencement of travel.”

Bassinets

You can request a bassinet for infants up to 6 months old with a maximum weight of 10 kgs. The bassinets measure approximately 70cm by 30cm. It is a good idea to measure your baby to see if they will fit comfortably.

Bassinets are not available on all planes. Specifically, they are not on Q300, Q400, A320, and A321 aircraft. Be sure to ask about availability for your specific flight when you book.

“The Bassinets are about 70cm long x 30cm wide and shall not be suitable for infants over 6 months of age with a weight limit of 10 kgs. Bassinets are available in all aircraft EXCEPT Q300, Q400, A320 and A321.”

Strollers and car seats

You may bring one fully collapsible stroller, infant carrying basket, or infant car seat for your baby, but the airline notes this is subject to space availability. The airline’s page we checked does not specify whether these items are checked at the gate or ticket counter, so it is best to ask ahead of time.

Philippine Airlines also allows the CARES harness for children weighing between 22 and 44 lbs. This is the only FAA-approved harness restraint permitted.

Full details, with the airline’s own wording: Philippine Airlines car seat and stroller policy.

“An infant may also be allowed one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket or infant's car seat subject to availability of space.”

Baby baggage

For international flights, an infant paying at least 10% of the adult fare is eligible for a baggage allowance. The airline’s page we checked does not spell out the specific weight or piece allowance for this, so you should confirm the details with the airline.

In addition, an infant may be allowed one fully collapsible stroller, infant’s carrying basket, or infant’s car seat. This is dependent on available space, so it is not guaranteed.

“An infant may also be allowed one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket or infant's car seat subject to availability of space.”

Sitting together

If you purchase a seat for your child to use an approved car seat or child restraint system (CRS), a parent or guardian must be seated in the seat directly next to them. This ensures you can attend to your child during the flight. The airline’s page we checked does not mention other family seating policies, so if you are flying with multiple children, it is a good idea to select your seats together when you book your tickets.

“A parent or guardian who is responsible for an infant or child who is using an approved car seat or aircraft CRS on board an aircraft must be seated next to the seat to which the car seat or aircraft CRS is secured.”
