Your guide to EVA Air's infant and child policies. Find rules on lap infant fares, baggage for strollers, requesting a bassinet, and kids flying alone.

EVA Air offers family-friendly policies, including the availability of bassinets on all its aircraft. The airline has specific rules for children who turn two years old during a trip, requiring a seat and a child fare for the remaining flights. There is also a notable restriction on using some child restraint systems in certain premium class seats.

Lap infants and infant fares

On EVA Air, a child under two years old can travel as a lap infant with an infant fare ticket. Each adult is permitted to travel with only one lap infant. If you prefer your child to have their own seat, even if they are under two, you must purchase a child fare ticket for them.

If your child’s second birthday occurs after your travel has started, you will need to pay for a child fare and a seat for all subsequent flights on your itinerary.

“A child who has not reached his/her second birthday and is not occupying a seat shall purchase an infant fare ticket.”

Newborns and proof of age

EVA Air has a clear policy for the youngest travelers. Newborns are not accepted as passengers within the first 7 days after their birth. The airline’s official page that we checked does not specify any requirements for proof of age, but it is always wise to travel with a copy of your child’s birth certificate.

“Within the first 7 days after birth, a baby is not considered strong enough for air travel and will not be accepted as a passenger on an EVA flight.”

Bassinets

Baby bassinets are available on all EVA Air aircraft, which can make for a more comfortable flight. However, these are subject to height and weight limitations for safety. To request a bassinet, you must provide your baby’s date of birth, height, and weight when you make your reservation. It is a good idea to make this request as early as possible.

“Baby bassinets are available aboard all EVA Air aircraft, but for safety reasons, height and weight limitations apply. Please advise us of your baby’s date of birth, height and weight when you make your reservation.”

Strollers and car seats

One infant carrier or fully collapsible stroller/pushchair is permitted per infant. It may be brought into the cabin, but if there is no available storage space, it will be placed in the luggage compartment. Child Restraint Systems, including CARES harnesses and car seats, are not permitted in the Royal Laurel class on Boeing 777 aircraft because of the seat design. If you plan to use a restraint system, confirm its allowance for your specific seat.

Full details, with the airline’s own wording: EVA Air car seat and stroller policy.

“One infant carrier or fully collapsible stroller/pushchair (will be loaded in the luggage compartment if stowage space is not available in the cabin).”

Kids flying alone

EVA Air offers an unaccompanied minor service for children aged 5 to 12. Parents must complete a form with contact information for the people dropping off and picking up the child. A key rule applies to long connections: if an itinerary includes a transfer or stopover that is more than 4 hours, a parent or guardian must arrange for someone to meet the child and stay with them until they can check in for their next flight.

“Unaccompanied minors aged 5 to 12 years may travel with EVA Air.”

“If the itinerary includes a transfer/stopover that exceeds 4 hours, arrangements must be made in advance by a parent or guardian for an authorized person to meet/pick up the child upon arrival at the stopover/layover point and stay with the child until he/she can be checked back in to continue the trip.”
